OUR TEACHERS ARE QUALIFIED AND EXPERIENCED

The Carolan Academy is led by a married couple, Stephen and Caitlin Carolan, who share a passion for teaching. Their experience is not only in the Irish arts. Both are registered with the Queensland College of Teaching with Primary School Education qualifications. Both Stephen and Caitlin are certified and registered with An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha, the Irish Dancing Commission in Dublin Ireland, which holds its instructors and adjudicators to the highest standard in the world.

Stephen is the only Irish-born Irish Dance and music teacher on the Gold Coast, and Caitlin has Queensland roots having been raised in the area. Their combined skills and gifts allow them to offer a wholistic and well-rounded educational experience to their students.

CAITLIN CAROLAN A.D.C.R.G.

Hailing from the northern end of the Gold Coast, Caitlin began dancing at the age of 4. She trained in all styles of dance, however, soon found Irish to be her passion. Throughout her dancing career, she won many Irish dance championships including numerous Queensland State Championship titles, numerous World Championship placings, third place at the North American Championships, various top 5 Australian National placings and in 2010, she was crowned the Senior Ladies Australian National Irish Dance Champion.  

Caitlin launched her show career by performing in her first show, ‘Dance of Desire’. The show opportunities continued and saw her touring Australia, China, Germany and the United States of America with ‘Dance of Desire’, ‘Celtic Illusion’’, ‘Tony Kenny’, ‘Ireland The Show’ and dancing the lead role of Aisling in ‘Gaelforce Dance’. Caitlin’s performing experiences has allowed her to take on the role of dance choreographer for shows including ’, ‘Ireland - The Show’ and ‘The Heart of Ireland’.  

Caitlin has trained numerous State Champions and Podium finishing team dancers at the Australian National Championships. Many ceili and choreography teams have achieved great success, under Caitlin’s instruction, both winning and placing at the Queensland State Championships. 

Caitlin holds a Bachelor of Education and is registered with the Queensland College of Teachers. She is both a qualified Irish dance Teacher and Adjudicator, holding registration with CLRG, the oldest and largest Irish Dance organization in the world.

STEPHEN CAROLAN A.D.C.R.G.

Stephen started Irish Dancing at the age of 8 and enjoyed many years of solo and team dancing with the Miriam McCarthy School of Dancing in Drogheda. In 2002, he decided to concentrate more on his solo dancing and joined Scoil Rince Oirialla in Dundalk under the mentoring of his teachers Francis Curley, Olive Burnes & Fiona Harold. Throughout his years as a competitive dancer, Stephen won numerous dancing titles including three Ulster Championships in a row (2004, 2005, 2006), one All-Scotland Championship (2005), one British National Championship (2005), one All-Ireland Championship (2006), and two World Championships (2005 & 2007). In 2007, he won the world title with a perfect score of 700. 

Having toured as a Lead Dancer & Troupe Dancer with Rhythm of the Dance for one year, Stephen returned home in 2008 and decided to start playing music at feiseanna. He can now be seen playing regularly at feiseanna worldwide and has had the privilege of playing at some major events such as the World Championships, North American Irish Dance Championships, Australian National Championships, Irish Nationals, Australian International Oireachtas, Ulster, Munster, Leinster, Connaught Oireachtasai, Mid-Atlantic, Mid-America, New England Oireachtasai, and State Championships in QLD, NSW, WA, SA, VIC.

Stephen has released a number of albums including the Choones series, The Feis Machine series, Feis Set Dances & The Ultimate Irish Dance Workout. He has also been signed as an artist with Feis The App and is very excited to release some brand new music on the app in the coming months.

Amongst dancing and playing music at feiseanna, Stephen has completed a B.A. in Irish & Geography as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Primary Education at St.Patrick’s College in Dublin. He currently works as a Primary School Teacher holding simultaneous registration with The Irish Teaching Council and Queensland College of Teachers. He qualified as a TCRG with An Coimisiún Le Rince Gaelacha (CLRG) in 2017 and also recently qualified as an adjudicator (ADCRG) in 2022.
